What is the size limit for the profile image upload?

The limit is 150K. That is quite a large picture already, so if they are getting the error, let them know that they need to size down the picture to reasonable dimensions.

How often are notices sent out after a reunion is posted?

Notices are sent out only when the initial reunion is posted and the submitter selects to send out a notice. If the submitter edits the notice and then saves it, an optional notice is sent out again. However, there is currently no way for the admin to force a notice to go out (without logging in as the original submitter).

How do I use the RSS Newsfeed option on the website?

The RSS feature is enabled automatically on ALL SIB alumni websites. So there is nothing to add to your site except something to let users know about the feature. The following is suggested:

(Insert Mission Name) is now making available its site content via Real Simple Syndicated broadcasting. What this means is you can now get the headlines and descriptions of 'What's New' on the alumni site without receiving any email notifications. This new feature gives you the option to monitor the flow of new content without first opening your web browser and visiting the website or having to check your email. Again, this is a feature that is an alternative to your getting email notifications.

To get started, all you need is an RSS Reader, also known as an Aggregator. There are many free software programs you can download off the net and easily install. Visit the following link to see what's available:

RSS Aggregators: http://backend.userland.com/directory/167/aggregators

Once your Aggregator is installed, subscribe to the (Insert Mission Name) RSS Feed by pointing your RSS Reader to:

example URL: http://www.mission.net/mission/name/rss.php

Anytime new content is approved, you will receive an alert in your RSS Reader to let you know of the change. Then if you want to know more, you would simply click on the alert and it will open your web browser and take you directly to the new content on the alumni site.

There are also many other Internet sites that provide RSS 'feeds' to which you can 'subscribe.' is probably one of the more popular sites for finding other sites which publish RSS feeds.

I am currently using an RMDB or LDSMissions.net database. Can I convert that into SIB?

YES!

  • To convert an LDSMissions.net database, have your SIB account created and then go to a special convertion utility located at http://www.mission.net/[your]/[site]/mdb_convert.php. There are detailed instructions on the page. Be sure to follow the directions exactly.
  • To convert a RMDB database, have your SIB account created and then submit a request (through the Feedback Form) for your database to be converted, being sure to indicate your mission.net username. Your RMDB data files (alumni.db and pres.db) should be in the /export/home/mission/[your_username]/data directory.

My mission's language isn't available in SIB. What can I do?

SIB is built to accomodate any language that can be expressed in the utf-8 character set (i.e. any language). Most likely, the reason it is not available is simply because noone has done the translation. If you would like to help with the translation of a language, please contact someone on the sib development team (sib-dev@mission.net) indicating your desires to help.

Does Mission.net have a generic privacy policy or terms of service for alumni sites?

It is the responsibility of each webmaster to create a privacy policy and/or terms of service for their website. It is up to you, as a webmaster, to determine how users can use your site. While the SIB coding is copyright the LDS Mission Network, the copyright for your site is your responsibility.

The LDS Mission Network provides a generic privacy policy/terms of service that you can customize to meet your needs, if you desire. If you wish to adapt this policy for your use, you should review each section. You need not include any section, unless you want to. Customizations may include entering your site name in place of "this site", for example.

What if the answer to my question isn't here?

Many SIB webmasters are available to answer your questions and give tips on how to get the best use of your SIB site. Conversations take place on the SIB email list where webmasters are able to post answers to each other's questions. For information on how to join the SIB list, send a message to SIB-help@mission.net.
